How is this learning approach different?2023-05-11T21:55:43+00:00

We look at the student as a whole person. Our families can create an individualized schedule that fits their student’s specific needs with teachers and therapists who are well-trained and passionate about working together. Families can choose days of the week, times of day, and student-teacher ratios. This allows students to have opportunities to build on their strengths, while providing timely and skilled interventions for targeted areas of need.

Can I stay with my student for the entire time?2023-05-11T22:30:43+00:00

Yes, we always want parents / care providers involved in student’s learning processes.

Please note, teachers / therapists may exercise the right to ask you to wait in our waiting area if your presence impacts the outcomes of a student or students in the group.

What curriculum do you use?2023-05-11T22:39:02+00:00

Programs are chosen based on each student’s individualized Yearly Learning Plan. We are fond of Orton Gillingham, Wilson, Saxton, Touch Math, Handwriting Without Tears, Learning Without Tears, Social Thinking, and Starfall. Your student will receive their workbooks from these programs as part of the annual learning assessment. ($220 for assessment, includes workbooks)

What if we miss our scheduled time, i.e., out sick, hospital stay, vacation?2023-05-11T22:48:39+00:00

We ask that you contact the teachers and therapists your student plans on seeing directly with as much notice as possible.

1:1 Sessions

Teachers and therapists will do their best to arrange a make up for 1:1 session with you. You will not be billed for 1:1 session you don’t attend.

Please note, excessive absences may result in disenrollment. Please see intake paperwork for outlined policy.

Group Sessions

Group sessions require a quarterly commitment and are billed monthly regardless of attendance. In the event of a planned, prolonged absence or withdrawal, please give us notice 30-day written notice prior the end of the quarter to ensure appropriate staffing.  If your student is out sick for a couple of days, we will do our best to provide make ups based on availability once they return. Quarters are January – March, April – June, July – October.

Exceptions to policy: months of March, October, and December will have one week of break built into all group session rates.

What if the proposed schedule doesn’t work for my family?2023-05-11T22:51:09+00:00

We are happy to work with you to create a schedule that fits with your family’s schedule (based on teacher and therapist availability).

What if my student has a bad day and they have a behavior issue?2023-05-11T22:52:09+00:00

Safety for everyone is our number one concern. Our teachers and providers are trained in behavior management skills and prevention. We understand that everyone has off days. We love helping students build task tolerance and better understand what their body needs to stay regulated. However, if a student is routinely attempting to harm themselves or others, we will partner with their family to discuss other appropriate options.

Can I use my DDD or Private Insurance to have more therapy during the day?2023-05-11T22:53:04+00:00

Absolutely! You can always extend your student’s day with therapy services. This will allow for more free time during the week for kids to be kids! We love that idea!

Please note: You will need to have a responsible party present during the time your student is in these DDD or Private Insurance therapies. We offer paraprofessional support during this time, if needed.

How do I know when my student needs a paraprofessional?2023-05-11T22:57:22+00:00

If your student is not independent with toileting or feeding, they will need a paraprofessional for the entire time they attend services at The Learning Center. If you would like to provide your own provider, we welcome them to attend.
Please note, they must stay on property the entire time.

What evaluations are required for my student to attend?2023-05-11T22:58:25+00:00

Each student is required to have a Yearly Learning Plan each calendar school year to establish their personal learning goals for that year. If the student attends therapies or therapy lead groups, they must have a current evaluation completed in the last three years on file. If your student doesn’t have a current evaluation or needs it updated for any of the therapies we offer, we are happy to complete one for you.

What will my student need to bring to school?2023-05-11T22:59:51+00:00

Your student will be provided with a hook and cubby to place their personal items in. Please bring a change of clothes, additional briefs (if needed), lunch or snacks, TPN machine, communication devices, glasses, hearing aids, orthotics, soft splints, any sensory items, backpack, additional layer of clothing, etc. If possible, have them wear a supportive pair of shoes with socks. Please label all personal items with the student’s name.

What ways do you keep students safe from outside threats?2023-05-11T23:04:12+00:00

Our entries are always locked. The building can only be accessed by access code. You are not able to see into windows or doors. Teachers and staff have been trained on emergency procedures and plans. The lowest possible student ratio provides the strongest possible support in emergency situations.

My student has a low immune system and gets sick very easily. How can I keep my student as safe as possible?2024-04-01T22:35:36+00:00

Families can choose from several different learning plans to meet your student’s learning needs. Families can choose to limit contact to only a few people in The Learning Center. They can choose times to attend outside of normal school hours to limit direct contact with other people. Teachers and therapists wipe down areas after sessions. Equipment is wiped down and disinfected frequently to limit exposure. Low student teacher ratios allow for less contact while still providing essential social interactions. Upon request, teachers / therapists are happy to use PPE and additional precautions during 1:1 session to further limit exposures.
